Hobgoblin is a villainous character appearing in Marvel Comics, primarily associated with Spider-Man.
The original Hobgoblin, secretly Roderick Kingsley, first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #238 (March 1983). Kingsley, a wealthy fashion designer, stumbled upon a hidden lair containing the Goblin Formula and equipment of the Green Goblin. He modified the formula to avoid insanity, gaining enhanced strength, speed, and reflexes. He then created the Hobgoblin persona to terrorize New York City.
Over time, several other characters have adopted the Hobgoblin identity, including Ned Leeds (brainwashed by Kingsley), Jason Macendale (who later became Jack O'Lantern and then Demogoblin), and Phil Urich. Kingsley himself has also periodically returned to the role.
